Fairies and Mermaids and Flower Girls

I remember when I was a flower girl at my aunty’s wedding. I was 4. My cousin who is 6 weeks older than me was the matching flower girl and our frocks were white crepe with a fuschia taffeta sash around our middle. Our matching blonde hair was set with pin curls into ringlets. The thing I remember most is crying. For the whole event. Have no idea why. My poor aunty!
One of the wonderful things about doing what I do with Kids With Crayons is having the opportunity to re-live a lot of my very own childhood memories. Childhood is pure magic, and even with the fabulous technology we have now, my memories of dressing up as a flower girl will be no different to any little girl’s experience today of dressing up like a flower girl. Except perhaps the torture of pin curls! I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work with Sasha’s drawings before and this time the drawing is for a wedding and Sasha is going to be a flower girl. She’s drawn a gorgeous picture of fairies and mermaids for the occasion. It’s been a delight watching Sasha grow up through her drawings and I hope she has a lovely time all dressed up at the wedding. Just don’t let anyone near you with bobby pins and there’ll be no tears before bedtime!

Crayon Chick - Ah, the leg-o-mutton sleeve. What about the peach silk bow on the bum! Thanks for the comments, it’s lovely to hear from you. Aunties are such good value for dressing up, aren’t they?!!

Anonymous - OK, here’s me posting a comment, so you can test drive this thing. I always wanted to be a flower girl instead I have been bridesmaid 4 times. 1 x magenta with leg-o-mutton sleeves (mmmmmm), 1 x red thai silk fitted to the ankles (hot, but had to be completely taken off to go to the loo). 1 x chocolate silk tafetta (still have that one, will never wear it, but it’s beautiful). 1 x Vegas. Dress v appropriate for Vegas, and v inappropriate for the second celebration in Clovelly, in August…..

melbournegirl - What a gorgeous drawing!

I unfortunately missed out on being a flowergirl – but did get to be ‘Junior Bridesmaid’ for my Aunty…
