Introducing the Empisal KH600

It’s 1972.  A certain Crayon Chick-child has a certain kid brother notorious for losing school jumpers.  Beautifully hand-knitted school jumpers, at least 3 lost per term.  Or so it seems, in my memory he was like Bobby Brady to my Marcia Brady, always mischievous and as cheeky as they come.  Enter the Empisal KH600.  Mum was whipping up new school jumpers overnight.  What a sensation!  It was brilliant!  New jumper?  No problems.  New poncho?  No worries.  New fancy knitted bikinis?  Of course!

Don’t you just love that ‘Howzat’ moustache in the picnic pattern!  I had those bikinis, I wore that pink striped poncho when we climbed Mt Kosciusko one Easter, and I had those vests. I guess I was the Empisal poster child!

It’s 2012.  That Empisal knitting machine is now in my workroom and I’m loving it!  Scared stupid by it, but loving it.  I went to a machine knitting workshop yesterday and was completely thrilled to have brought home a garment.  That’s right, a whole wrap/cardigan piece of clothing, knitted in ONE DAY.  I blocked it, crocheted the seams and washed it this morning.  It’s laying flat in my laundry to dry.  I’m going to wear it tomorrow.  Tomorrow.  I can’t believe it!  IN ONE DAY!

It’s been a while since 1972 and the machine needs a bit of love and attention, as I do.  A little cleaning, replacing some bent needles and brushes that look like they’ve had a scare and have splayed out like an old tooth brush, replacing a sponge bar (don’t ask, but it sounds like a nice thing to have!).  Nothing a girl can’t handle.

Brenda - I just bought an Empisal KH 610! It’s almost identical to yours except it’s not aqua, it’s turquoise. I’m a newbie and i can’t wait to get started. Any tips you can share would be so welcome!

Nikki - I meant ADDICTIVE

Nikki - Oooohhhh… welcome to the club! It’s VERY ADDICIVE – all that instant gratification is more-ish. The learning process is my little zen practice and the miles of stockingette are a meditation. Either way, I’m happy and knitting stuff. Enjoy!

Frockfarie - I have a knitting machine, much simpler than yours. I get it out sometimes when I have miles of stocking stitch to do. Must do more experimenting with it.
