Seeking inspiration

I love reading, I love beautiful magazines, I love the order in a library, I love looking at a beautiful stack of books. I love to look at grouped things and I love collections. My own bookshelf is arranged into types of books with fiction in one pigeon hole, travel books in another, my beautiful art books in many others, loosely grouped into eras. I like to know when I’m looking for inspiration I know exactly which pigeon hole to sit in front of first. And I lament the time I reclaimed my cluttered self by throwing out many piles of hoarded magazines. Images have always inspired me.

This picture of a bookshelf is in fact a painting! Can you believe it. I first came across Victoria Reichelt‘s work flicking through a thick glossy magazine (of course) in a Qantas lounge waiting for a flight to Perth. I fought all my instincts not to tear the page out and stick the image in my visual diary. Her work represents all that inspires my own art – images from the everyday, colour, things worn and tattered, and collections. I could look at her work all day. Which is the delicate line between looking for inspiration and procrastination. I’m afraid to say today is more procrastination. But isn’t it wonderful!
