Stitching and Crafting

Day 2 of the Stitches and Craft Show now under my belt and I’m a weary chick! I am so motivated and inspired by the creativity of my fellow stallholders. And the feedback I’m getting from visitors and peers is just fabulous, I’m grinning from ear to ear and feeling a bit ‘awww shucks’. Thanks lovely people, it just makes me want to keep making things for ever and ever!
This year, Stitches and Craft is embracing the ‘Make Do & Mend‘ ethos, one of the many WWII slogans designed to encourage the public to re-design out-of-date clothes. Rationing of everything from sugar to stockings prompted an extraordinary outpouring of inventiveness and that’s what I love about being a crafter, focussing on creating and relishing those lovely old crafts and making a new place for them now. Mending, recycling and re-fashioning is more than being ‘green’, it’s honouring generations of crafters, artisans and fixers, like my mum and dad, my grandparents, people who make things with their hands. Hoorah and thanks for showing me how to make stuff, Mum, and Happy Mother’s Day for Sunday! xxx
